Institute Europa Subterranea

The Institute Europa Subterranea was founded in 2007 in order to establish a Europe-wide network of mining historians and mining archaeologists. Today the network consists of many more disciplines, which more or less deal with relics of ancient mining.

Next to doing research, the IES associates are involved in advising local authorities in matters concerning ancient mining. Especially, where the relics of ancient mining are endangered as a result of modern urban planning or landscaping.
